The best simple effective and economical remedy to a sore throat.

This remedy is suitable for dryness, pain, difficulty in swallowing, and mucus in the throat.  

This simple home remedy can help you ease dryness, pain, difficulty in swallowing in the throat. All you need is the leaves of the Marwa plant also known as marjoram.  

Marjoram is a natural super source of phenol often found in over–the–counter sore throat sprays. The phenolic acid reduces the contraction of muscles and keeps them flexible. This allows easy-to-swallow food/water and reduced discomforts.

Marwa/Marjoram leaves as lozenges

Simply take 3-4 leaves at a time, wash them with plain water, and place them in the mouth. Do not over chew. Let the herb leaves be in the mouth for about half an hour. The slow release of the nutrients like phenolic acid with the saliva relieves mucous and soothes the throat. It acts like lozenges. This really helps you get rid of sore throat discomforts and makes you feel better fast. Use the leaves as lozenges 3-4 times a day or even more as per the need depending upon the severity.

Marjoram Green tea 

Marwa is an effective analgesic & anti-inflammatory that calms the muscles and allows for better drainage and decreased stuffiness. Make a green tea with fresh leaves and sip it 5-7 times a day especially after each meal, between the two meals, and at bedtime. There is no need to add honey. However, just ensure that the green tea prepared using the lid over the pan. Do not boil it open as this evaporates major nutrients in the air.


In case you do not have a Marjoram plant at home, you can get it from your nearby nursery or can opt for Marwah ark, a traditionally made distilled water to use for your sore throat. Always do a thorough check to avoid brands selling chemical-based products in the name of natural & chemical-preservative free.

Marwa is also known as sweet marjoram and its botanical name is Origanum majorana. Do not confuse it with oregano. These are two different plants. 

The remedy is absolutely safe for use on kids. Kids may not chew the leaves because of the pungent taste however green tea a couple of times a day can really help.
